An East Sussex hill-climb double header was the order of the day down on the south coast with Rowan Brackston and Olivia Webb winning the East Sussex CA event.
The podiums for both men and women were remarkably similar to the Velopace event later in the day with the only variation being the men’s third place.
The earlier event of the double header saw riders tackle a slightly longer course where Rowan Brackston (London Dynamo) was held to a much tighter margin of victory than he would eventually have in the day’s latter race.
Brackston crossed the finish in 4-04.4 to bag his first of the day but David Ross (LFGSS CC) would finish only 2.4 seconds behind with a time of 4-06.8.
The change to the two events’ podium spots would be Richard Cartland (South Downs Bikes) finishing third ahead of Theo Tadros with a time of 04-13.1 whereas Tadros would later reverse the finish in the Velopace event.
Theo’s dad Peter Tadros would line up next to him in the final standings in fifth place, 3.1 seconds behind.
Olivia Webb (Eastbourne Rovers CC) clocked a time of 5-17.1 to win the women’s categories; the 49-year-old beat her younger competitors by 23 seconds to take end a hat-trick of second places in hill-climbs.
Gemma Hobson (Sussex Nomads CC) took second spot in 5-40.9 as Debbie Percival (Kent Velo Girls/Boys) crossed the line in third place with a 5-50.7.
