James Rix and Delia Beddis were fastest man and woman in the 10-mile time trial in East Sussex.
Rix (Team Bottrill) continued his impressive start to the season taking his second win in 2018. The Team Bottrill veteran has finished no lower than fourth this season and his time of 19-13 secured a win for the 42-year-old nearly a month after winning the VTTA North Midlands 10.
Rix pipped fellow Haywards Heath resident Mark Emsley (Crawley Wheelers) to the win by 1-16 with Emsley coming home in 20-29, a time that would have been good enough to take the win in last year’s running of the event. Emsley snatched second spot by a narrow three seconds.
Howard Shaw (Eastbourne Rovers CC) improved on his fourth place from the 2017 running and completed the top three with his time of 20-32 – Shaw will be pleased with the ride after a 21st place finish earlier this month – a big improvement for the rider from Eastbourne.
Delia Beddis (Les Filles RT) beat out a big field of riders from Lewes Wanderers CC in the women’s category to take the win by 1-31 from Lisa Davies (Lewes Wanderers CC).
Her time of 23-08 marks her second win this month after topping the women’s prize at the Kingston Phoenix RC 10 a fortnight ago. She was also dangerously close to beating her personal best – only missing out by four seconds.
Overall winner James Rix (Team Bottrill) also took the prize for fastest veteran in the 10-mile time trial on Saturday. Dan Sadler (RT 316) was the next quickest veteran but the 41-year-old could only manage a sixth place – a year after finishing second on the same course.
Fabien Large (Direct Power RT) made it two wins in the East Sussex CA 10 – the 16-year-old led the way in the junior class for the second year running with a time of 22-29.
