Stuart Fairweather claimed his third victory of the season as he sped to top spot in the Godric CC 10 in Wortwell, Norfolk on Saturday.
Having topped the podium in the Wosley RC 25 and Plomesgate CC 10, the Team Velovelocity veteran once again showed what he is capable of over the shorter distance with a good win against a competitive field.
He recorded a time of 20.19 on the A143, a main road through Norfolk. Traffic was light but there was just enough to help a little and Fairweather made the most of this with his winning time.
Just 33 seconds down on Fairweather was VC St Raphael rider Andy Stuart, also a veteran. That was enough to give him second place. It was Stuart’s best finish for a while, although he did finish fifth in both the Bedfordshire Road CC 10 and the Stowmarket and District CC 10 in recent weeks.
Veteran riders made up the vast majority of the field here and it was another of those, Lee Garrod of Sole Bay Cycle Sport, who completed the top three with a time of 21.46.
It was a good result for Garrod whose last podium came at the end of May – another third place in the Great Yarmouth CC 25.
The women’s category also proved to be competitive with Jan Smith of Great Yarmouth CC winning by 58 seconds from Sally Withey of Team Swift. Smith completed in 24.52, Withey in 25.50.
The course presents riders with a good surface and quick times are achievable. However, the wind was a factor here, a backwind helping on the way out but difficult to ride into on the way back.
