Pfeiffer Georgi set a new junior girls competition record at the Merthyr CC 25-mile time trial in South Wales on Easter Sunday, while Stuart Travis was the fastest overall.

The 17-year-old covered the R25.3h course near Rhigos in 53.51 to slice 50 seconds from Cerys Gilfillan’s previous best set in 1997. It gave Georgi second place on the day in the women’s competition, with Vicky Gill (Drag2Zero) clocking 53.43.

In the men’s competition, Stuart Travis (Team Bottrill-Vanguard) was fastest with an impressive 46.41, winning on the day by 1-24 – but missing out on a personal best by nine seconds having gone faster on the same course last July.

Second place went to Paceline RT’s Pat Wright with 48-05, while Chris Gibbard (Bynea CC) was third, another 33 seconds back.

It was a day of impressive performances across the categories, and fourth spot went to 17-year-old Cavan Walker with 49-27.

While he was short of the boys junior competition record, he was joined by William Manfield-Yorke and Ieuan Woods as Cycle Team OnForm broke the junior team competition record for 25 miles with a combined 2-35-14, breaking the 17-year-old record by almost four minutes.

In other categories, fastest veteran was Richard Gambling (Team Backstedt) who was eighth overall with 50-51. And the fastest female veteran was Lisa Davis (Lewes Wanderers CC) with 58-11.

The day was cold but dry and sunny, with a tailwind on the way out and a headwind on the return leg.

After a start near Rhigos at the Hirwaun Industrial Estate, riders head to Hirwaun village where they turn back out onto the A465 and fly through Glynneath and Resolven to the turn at Aberdulais from where they retrace to a finish just beyond Glynneath.

It was the same course where Marcin Bialoblocki set the current men’s competition record on 44-04 two years ago, and while he was down to ride this event he was a non-starter – as was women’s 100-mile competition record holder Alice Lethbridge.
