Louise Georgi finished top female as David Janes added another win to his collection at the Chippenham and District Wheelers 22-mile time trial on Sunday.
36-year-old Janes (Wheels of Dorset) from Wiltshire powered to a convincing win in sweltering conditions as he made it nine wins for the year. His time of 48-39 was in a league of its own and in fact a new U601 course record.
The event was scheduled for March but was postponed due to snow and ice. In typical British weather fashion, conditions could not have been more contrasting with “blisteringly hot conditions” according to organisers.
The long lasting blazing conditions were said to have helped in producing some “very fast times for a hardriders course”.
Janes’ margin of victory was 2-10 with second place going to Ross Holland (Cheltenham & County CC) in a time of 50-49; the second place equalling his best result of the season.
Tavis Walker finished third by a paltry second ahead of team-mate Robert Grover, stopping the clock on 51-56 and 51-57 respectively. The pair combined with eighth-placed John Benjamin to take the team prize for VC Walcot in a combined time of 2-40-13.
Fastest woman on the day was Louise Georgi (Giant CC Halo Films) who covered the course in 1-08-23 to record her first win of the 2018 campaign.
The 51-year-old veteran had a strong ride to finish ahead of Joanna Knight (Bristol South CC) in second place by a margin of 1-55.
In other categories, Tony Chapman (Frome & District Wheelers) was the quickest veteran on the day with the 46-year-old posting a time of 53-44 to finish sixth overall.
