Professional road rider Ben Hetherington proved fastest in the Ferryhill Wheelers 25-mile time trial in North Yorkshire, while Christina Murray was fastest female once again.

22-year-old Hetherington, a pro with Memil CCN Pro Cycling Team who was riding for MTS Cycle Sport as his pro team are not registered for time trials, covered the new T254 course near Leeming in 51-25.

That left evergreen veteran Keith Murray (DRAG2ZERO) second by 2-28, while Kris Atkin (Team Bottrill) was third, another minute off the pace.

It was a good day for the Murray family – Keith was second overall as well as first veteran, his son Sam was fastest junior rider with his first sub-hour ride of 59-44, while Sam's auntie Christina Murray (Army CU) was the fastest female.

And to add to that, Keith and Sam were joined by DRAG2ZERO team-mate Henry Sleight in the winning team, the trio combining for 2-49-06.

The new course uses the service road alongside the A1 from Catterick to Bedale and Sinderby.

Christina Murray’s time of 1-01-47 gave her the win in the women’s category by 2-15 from Alex Smethurst (Team Swift), while another two and a half minutes back was junior Anna Docherty (Liv CC Halo Cycles) as third fastest female.

Hetherington likes to ride local time trials when not overseas racing – he last won the Ferryhill Wheelers 10 near his home in Sedgefield last month.

Christina Murray (Army CU) has already tasted victory this season following a win in the Bath CC 10 last month, while she was second in the National 12-hour Championships last season.
