Darren Maironis (Velotik Racing Team) made it two victories in a row in the Chester RC 25 in Shropshire, while Kate Giddings (Liverpool Century RC) took the women’s win.
It was veteran Maironis’ first outing on the D25/8E course and he took victory by over 30 seconds in a winning time of 52 minutes and 25 seconds.
The course sees riders start just outside Whitchurch before heading south on the A41 and then onto the A53 before RAF Ternhill before making the return journey on the out and back course.
Maironis, 45 and from Manchester, also took victory in his last outing at The Racing Chance Foundation event clocking 53.34 on that occasion.
He was chased home by Graham Kemp (Team Bottrill-Vanguard) who clocked 52.57 while Toby Williams (Liverpool Phoenix CC) took third in 53.30.
“It was the first time that I’ve done that course and I was a bit unsure what to expect,” said Maironis.
“A couple of people I spoke to said that the surface was a bit rough in parts and that information helped a little bit. It was fast on the way out and then the way back was a little bit of a grind and was quite lumpy.
“On the way back I managed not to lose too much average speed and the last mile and a half was really fast.
“I have been messing with my position quite a bit but I got used to it today and it felt more comfortable.”
32-year-old Giddings, who also won the Mid Shropshire Wheelers 50, last month returned to the region to clinch victory in a winning time of one hour, one minute and 13 seconds.
Meanwhile host club rider Jamie O’Connor was fastest junior in 1:00.08 and Liverpool Phoenix CC won the team prize.
