Tanfield breaks course record, Post fastest female in Hemel Hempstead 10
Harry Tanfield (Cleveland Wheelers) clocked 17-11 to break the course record for the F11/10 in Hertfordshire, while Stephanie Post (Team Bottrill-Vanguard) was fastest female on a windy day near Tring.
The 23-year-old from Great Ayton near Middlesbrough, who won silver in the time trial at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia, took more than a minute off the previous best for the F11/10 course set by Chris Boddy earlier this year.
It was a windy day, but that didn’t prevent the top riders ploughing through the test. Behind Tanfield in second was multiple national champion Dan Bigham (Ribble Pro Cycling) who clocked 17-38.
Third spot went to junior Joshua Sandman (Team Backstedt Bike Performance) who covered the course in 18-16 to set a new junior competition record, while the junior record had already been beaten earlier in the event by existing record holder Zach Bridges (Ribble Pro Cycling) who had sliced two seconds from the old mark with 18-42 to finish an eventual seventh on the day.
There were many person best times and 42 riders managed to get under the 20-minute mark, with many more just a shade over that.
There was a large field of 58 women, led home by Stephanie Post (Team Bottrill-Vanguard) with 20-41, 36 seconds quicker than Sophie Lankford (Cardiff Ajax CC), while Anastasia Bowler (AS Test Team) wasn’t far behind in third.
The team prize went to JCA Equipe Velo with Jez Honor, Leigh Smith and Rob Fletcher combining for a time of 58-43. And the best of the women’s teams was Icknield RC with Judy Read, Tracey Williams and Su-Anne Bullock with 1-14-17.
