It was win number six for the season so far as Richard Price (London Phoenix CC) powered to victory in the Maldon and District CC 50-mile time trial in Essex, while the promoting club’s Lisa Hurrell was fastest female.
Price, 40 and from Enfield, covered the E21/50 course near North Fambridge in 1-48-26 to win by 7-41 from his nearest rival, Chris Smith (Southend Wheelers), while Iain Boardman (Dulwich Paragon CC) completed the podium in third, another 1-24 behind.
Hurrell’s time of 2-28-31 gave her the win in the women’s event by around seven and a half minutes from team-mate Rebecca Hammond on what was a good day for the Maldon and District CC, taking five of the 12 individual prizes as well as winning the team competition.
And new Maldon member Jack Mills did an outstanding ride, just missing out on the two-hour mark in his first 50-mile test.
It was the latest in a series of good results from Price this season. Among his victories in 2018 so far are the Crawley Wheelers CC sporting 41.6-mile event in March as well as the Bossard Wheelers 10, the London Phoenix CC 9.2, the Maldon and District CC 25, and the Dulwich Paragon CC 18.6.
Price is next in action on June 2 when he is down to ride the Elite CC 10.
For Hurrell it was her first open ride of the season, and she did better than last season when she failed to finish in the same event 12 months previously.
