Veteran rider Simon Beldon (Team Bottrill/Vanguard) continued his domination of the Yorkshire time trial scene with another victory in the Tickhill Velo CC 10 while Fiona Sharp (Team Swift) took the women’s win.
Beldon, 49, from Adel in Leeds, also won the VTTA National 25 Championships last month and road to victory on this occasion clocking a time of 20-18.
The 010/1 course saw riders compete on the A614 between near Hatfield before turning at Blaxton on a rough road surface.
It was Beldon’s 13th win of the season in what he describes as his “best ever year”.
“I was surprised to take the win as I thought my form was starting to disappear in training,” Beldon said.
“With Joey Walker riding I expected him to win so was surprised to beat him but I won’t complain. There was a head-wind out and the road surface is dreadful so it’s quite difficult to ride.
“It’s the second fastest time I’ve done on that course but last time there was better conditions.”
Beldon hopes to finish his season with a challenge at the Closed Circuit National Championships before a cyclo-cross campaign.
On this occasion he led a one-two for Team Bottrill/Vanguard finishing 28 seconds ahead of Daniel Barnett clocking 20.46.
Joey Walker (Team Wiggins) rounded off the podium in third finishing in 20.49.
In the women’s event Sharp, 39, from Hayton in York, also added another victory to her collection after also winning the Team Swift 50
Her winning time of 23 minutes and 37 seconds was enough for a 25 seconds victory ahead of Sian Randall (Team Jadan-Weldtite PB Vive le Velo) while Alex Deck (Rutland Cycling Club) took third in 24.42.
