Susan Semple and David Mead were fastest female and male riders respectively in the Saracen Road Club 10-mile time trial in Worcestershire on Saturday.
42-year-old Mead (Lutterworth Cycle Centre) clocked 19-48 and was the only rider to go under the 20-minute mark, giving him the win by 32 seconds from John Lucock (Born to Bike), while third spot was Scott Walker (Team Bottrill) who was another 26 seconds back.
And in the women’s event Susan Semple (Born to Bike) was fastest, the 52-year-old from Stafford clocked 23-46 to win by 15 seconds from TORQ Performance rival Janet Birkmyre, while Jo Wilkie (Ride 24/7) was third fastest female.
It was a hot day for the event, and with the wind blowing in the wrong direction there were just a handful of personal best times in the field of 76 riders.
The triangular course usually requires a headwind on the first leg, which then gives way to a cross-tail wind on the second leg and a tailwind on the homeward leg. But with the humid and sticky conditions and wind in the wrong direction, it proved a tough day for many and the course record was never in danger.
The K33/10d course starts on minor roads to the north west of Salford Priors, heading south to join the A46 and head back up north to the finish near the junction with the A422 near Arrow.
