Tom Rigby and Claire Swoboda were fastest man and woman in the Border City Wheelers 20-mile time trial in Cumbria on Sunday morning.
Rigby, the 28-year-old from Chorley in Lancashire who rides for Croston Velo, covered the challenging L202 course near Lazonby in 44.51 to win by 31 seconds from Philip Jones (Crimson Performance RT), with veteran Niall Paterson (VC Cumbria) taking third, another minute off the pace.
Swoboda, the VC St Raphael veteran, clocked 55.58 to win the women’s category by 59 seconds from ABC Centreville rival Charlotte Boothman. Swoboda will now turn her attentions to riding in the opening round of the Knight Composites Classic TT Series which begins on Good Friday near Buxton in Derbyshire.
The course used for the Border City Wheelers event is an anti-clockwise loop, starting to the west of Lazonby and heading out to the A5 before turning south towards Plumpton, where the riders bear left and head back to the start.
It was Rigby’s second victory of the season following a win in the Rossendale Road CLib hilly 11-mile time trial last month, and comes after a successful 2017 season which saw him win many events across the North West.
Aside from the fastest male and female, the best of the juniors was Lewis Hartley (Zappi’s RT) who clocked an impressive 47.14 for fifth overall, even beating espoir Tom Roper (Beacon Wheelers) by 38 seconds.
