Maryka Sennema (Fusion RT-Fierlan) and Dan Evans (ASSOS Equipe UK) were the fastest female and male riders respectively as Minehead CC staged their annual Tanks Direct Porlock hill-climb in Somerset on Sunday.

It was third time lucky for former national champion Evans, who beat Ed Laverack (JLT Condor) by 11 seconds, reversing the 2016 result, while third spot went to Charlie Meredith (Giant CC-Halo Films) who was another 28 seconds back.

Three-time national champion, Sennema rocketed up the 4.3-mile hill in 17.43 to win by 43 seconds from Lizzy Banks (Storey Racing), while Joanne Jago (Performance Cycles) was third woman and took the final step of the podium from newly-crowned Welsh champion Jessica Evans (ASSOS Equipe UK).

First of the juniors was George Kimber (CS Dynamo) whose time of 15.20 was good enough for fifth overall, while second junior was Mid-Devon CC’s Louie Priddle.

Top veteran was Gordon Markus (Severn RC), while Sennema was second best veteran.

Tristan Davies (One and All Cycling) was the best of the juveniles with 17.16, while in the 45-49 veterans category it was Mark Brock (Team Tor 2000) who took the win, with Jim Beales (Dursley RC) just three seconds further back in winning the 50-54 veterans category.

Finally, the over-55s veteran category was won by Rob Nash (Bristol South CC) with 19.46, taking the win in that category by just six seconds from Richard Boulter (Minehead CC).

The event was generously supported by a series of sponsors, notably Tanks Direct, while the Minehead CC would like to thank the Porlock Manor Estate who allow the scenic Toll Road to be closed for the event.
