Sinclair edges to Sherwood 10 victory
Completing the course just five seconds quicker than former multiple national champion Matt Bottrill, Matt Sinclair (Lutterworth Cycle Centre) took victory in the Sherwood CC 10 in Leicestershire on Saturday.
Sinclair, 38 and from Leicester, was securing his eighth win of the season in open events as he clocked 18.58 for the A10/14 course. While Bottrill was second and riding for his own team, Team Bottrill, third went to Sinclair’s team-mate David Kiernan with 19.21.
Fastest of the women was Lauren Creamer (NCC Group-Kuota-Torelli) with 21-41, giving her a comfortable victory in that category over Laura Walker (Team Bottrill) and Louise Day (Team Swift) who clocked 23.53 and 23.58 respectively.
Sinclair’s form has been great throughout the first few months of the season.
He secured his first victory of the year in the Coalville Wheelers 10 back in March, added to that with wins in the Sleaford Wheelers 10 and Matlock CC 10 in April, then was part of the winning quartet in Hinckley CRC’s 4-up 25.
June saw him win the Nottingham Clarion 50 and Sleaford Wheelers 15, and last weekend he was victorious in Witham Wheelers 25. With his win in the Sherwood 10 on Saturday, he has eight time trial victories and counting.
It was Bottrill’s first time trial since retiring from the sport to focus on his coaching business, and taking up triathlon, and he was pleased with his performance despite not taking the win.
