Joel Wainman claimed victory at the Lindsey Roads 10 in Lincolnshire on Saturday, whilst the women’s competition resulted in a tie.
There were 69 finishers on the ten-mile course and it was veteran Wainman (SSLL Racing Team), who was last to get his race underway, who paced his race well to claim a narrow victory.
The 43-year-old from Hull stopped the clock in a time of 20.45, just sneaking under the benchmark time set by Espoir Jack Levick (Tuxford Clarion) by four seconds, who was pushed into second.
Wainman has been consistent again in reaching podiums this year and this was his first open 10-mile win of the season after successes at the Yorkshire Coast Clarion 24 and Harrogate Nova 24 in April and March respectively.
Joshua Jones (Manilla Cycling) completed the top three, a mere two seconds further back in a time of 20.51.
There was a three-way tie for fourth place, as joint first veterans Stuart Wells (Flex-Tech Ettridge) and Darren Yarwood (VC Beverley) were also joined by first junior Bevan Jones (Manilla Cycling) in an impressive time of 21.09.
In the women’s competition, there was another dead heat but this time for victory as Alice Leclercq and Joy Payne could not be separated.
Leclercq (Boot Out Breast Cancer) and Payne (Amersham Road CC) both stopped the clock in 26.24, thus sharing the top prize.
They were 35 seconds ahead of third place woman Caroline Frank who was riding for host club Lindsey Roads.
