The East District 10-mile championships in Tottenhill, Norfolk, on Saturday saw two riders in the men’s event going faster than the previous course record and in less than perfect weather conditions.
Matthew Senter won the event with a stunning time of 20.04, destroying the course record in the process.
Senter, from King’s Lynn, often rides this course in King’s Lynn CC club events and made good use of his detailed knowledge of course.
Just 12 seconds off Senter’s time was Lloyd Chapman of Banks/Catford CC Equipe, completing in 20.16 to take second. DAP CC’s Harley Matthews completed the podium, stopping the clock in 20.37.
Held on a fine afternoon, the event took in a horseshoe-shaped course taking in Tottenhill, Bexwell and Stradsett. Despite the good weather, there was a strong headwind on the first four miles on the A10.
The ladies event was closely contested this year with Rebecca Johnson managing to edge out Verity Smith. Johnson, riding for Aprire Bicycles, completed in 23.25 and Smith finished in 23.36. Denise Hurren of Sole Bay Cycle Sport was third in a time of 24.18.
Mark Arnold of CC Desiragear was top veteran, placing fifth overall with a time of 21.25. Paul Jay of Team Velovelocity in 21.46 and third was Steven Neill of Kings Lynn CC in 22.23.
