Charles Taylor.

Charles Taylor and Jill Wilkinson both rode to commanding victories at the Warrington RC 50-mile event on Saturday afternoon.

The course consisted of two laps of the J4/16 course from Cranage, taking in Chelford and Knutsford along the way to make up round seven of the Cheshire Points series.

It was not a quick day and despite a downpour before the start of the event and an uncertain forecast including thunderstorms, racing took place in fairly good conditions with most of the riders missing the rain altogether, with some good times being recorded.

None more so than by Taylor, who was in fine form to stop the clock in one hour 45 minutes and 50 seconds, a winning margin of nearly three minutes.

The 35-year-old Team Bottrill/HSS Hire rider from Derby had already recorded a victory over the distance earlier this month when he took the Dukinfield CC event in a time eight seconds slower than his efforts on Saturday.

The first veteran on standard, with a plus of +32.36, was Andrew Wilkinson of Port Sunlight Wheelers who finished second overall.

Tony Cullen completed the top three, the Tri Central UK rider was a further minute behind Wilkinson’s time.

Jill WIlkinson.

In the women’s competition, Jill Wilkinson was in equally dominant form to take a significant victory.

The Chester RC rider completed her 50 miles in 2:03.35 which proved to be exactly eight minutes faster than her nearest challenger Natasha Smith (Racing Chance Foundation).

Liz Mathison completed the women’s podium, she was a further two minutes behind in third for Leigh Premier RC.

It was double victory for Taylor, as along with ninth place Graham Kemp and Ian Taylor, he took home the team prize for Team Bottrill, the trio having a combined time of 5:38.36.

Mark Wilkinson took home the prize for the fastest junior with a respectable 2:21.40 the time for his first event over this distance.
