Chris Fennell and Bronwen Ewing were the respective winners of the senior men’s and women’s prizes at the De Laune CC 25-mile time trial on Sunday.
There were sunny but calm conditions which led to some fast times being produced, none more so than by female rider Ewing.
The Rye & District Wheelers veteran recorded a time of 1:00.11 which broke a long-standing women’s course record for the Q25/20 course in Harrietsham.
This performance not only gave her the fastest woman prize, but also the best veteran on standard performance in the entire field.
In a great gesture, Ewing donated all of her prize money from the event to a charity of the host team’s choosing, the Battersea Dogs Home, as the race is held in honour of Fred Peachey who was a keen supporter of the charity.
Chris Fennell has been in good form so far this season picking up wins at the Thanet RC two-up and the Kent CA 10 last
month, and continued this with a strong showing on Sunday.
The Thanet RC man stopped the clock in a time of 52.25, nearly three minutes ahead of the entire field for a comfortable win.
It was a good day for Thanet RC, who had five riders in the top six, and it was Chris’ brother Nic who came second in a time of the 55.15.
Two minutes further back was John Osborn, his time of 57.15 broke the Thanet RC dominance on the day as the Hythe CC rider completed the podium.
Fabien Large (Direct Power CT) has had a number of first junior victories in 2017 and he added to that here, claiming the prize in a time of 1:03.25.
