John Cockrill (Abellio-SFA RT) battled against a fierce crosswind to clinch victory in the Thanet RC 25 by 15 seconds.

Road along the coastal road between Thanet and Herne Bay the two laps of the out-and-back A299 dual-carriageway course left riders exposed to windy conditions coming off the sea.

Riders said that times were between a minute and 1.30 down on their expected result due to the conditions.

Cockrill dealt with the conditions best and clocked a time of 56 minutes and 37 seconds.

Chris Fennell holds the 51.18 course record but chose not to start on this occasion.

Second place went to John Osborn (Hyde CC) in 56.52. Host club Thanet RC saw their riders finish in third, fourth and fifth to clinch the team prize.

Nick Fennell led their charge in a time of 56.57.

Jo Smith (BowlPhish Racing) was the fastest woman in a time of 1:05.18 after also taking women’s victory in the Thanet RC 2-up last month.

Charmaine Pullen (Adalta Cycling Club) was second woman in 1:08.04.
