Andrew Meilak.

Andrew Meilak rode to an impressive win at the Wigmore CC 25, a race whereby the to three were separated by just eight seconds.

The Challock course takes in Canterbury and Ashford, and the wind proved a good test for the large field of riders on Sunday morning.

It was 50-year-old Meilak who came out on top though, the VeloRefined.com man stopping the clock at 53.51 for a seven second winning margin.

“It was a course personal best for me after quite a few years of competing on that course so I’m pleased with that.” Meilak said.

“Conditions were quite windy and it was a tough day so I’m pleased with the performance, posting under 54 minutes for me was good.”

Meilak, from Cranbrook in Kent, has had a couple of podiums this year but this was his first visit to the top step.

“It’s my four or fifth race this season and normally I don’t get to my best until the summer so that ride was good for me.

Jane Wiley.

“I was surprised to win as I have never beaten Peter Tadros before so it was a first time for me,” he added.

Second place went Neil Lauder (PMR at Toachim House) in a time of 53.58, with Meilak’s former nemesis Peter Tadros (In-Gear Quickvit RT) completing the top three just one second further back.

Thanet RC took the team prize through a combined time 2:48.53 from Nicholas Fennell, Bill Hawkes and Simon Henderson, who all placed in the top ten.

Samuel Painter was the fastest junior, taking the prize for the host club, whilst Fabien Large (Direct Power Cycling Team) was fastest juvenile.

In the women’s race, Jane Wiley took a comfortable victory for 7 Oaks Tri club.

Wiley’s winning time of 1:06.51 put her nearly four minutes ahead of her nearest challenger on the day, which was Emma Juden.
