Reigning Classic Time Trial National Champion Phil Graves racked up yet another win in the Nelson Wheelers hilly 50 on Sunday at an event made tricky by three sets of temporary traffic lights.

Marshalls were put on each set of lights to help record any lost time and to cut down the chance of riders taking risks at the lights.

It was Nopinz rider Graves who placed first, completing in a time of 2:03.45. Although conditions were good on the day, the lack of a wind from the east meant that the chances of a course record being set were extremely unlikely.

With the timings of the lights worked out, Dean Robson of Northover VT moved up a place to second with a time of 2:04.16.

The final step of the podium was occupied by Olympic gold medallist Alistair Brownlee MBE who completed in 2:04.33 competing for Leeds Triathlon Centre. The roadworkers were especially helpful on the day, lending marshalls stop and go boards to allow the event to run more smoothly. In fourth place, Richard Bideau of Pendle Forest CC was top veteran and veteran on standard with a time of 2:04.38.

A special mention goes to Archie Irving of Beacon Wheelers, a juvenile rider who completed in 2:12.38 to place ninth overall.

Eleanor Haresign of Torq Performance was the fastest woman on the day, clocking a time of 2:26.52.

The fastest rider of the day on handicap was Mike Firth of Ilkley CC in 1:36.46. There was also a trike event with fastest trike on handicap being Geoff Booker of Oxonians CC.

He completed in 1:54.13 and was presented with the Ed Green Memorial Trophy by the Trike Association.
