George Fox (Team Bottrill-HSS Hire) and Lindsay Clarke (Fenland Clarion) received the prizes as fastest male and female riders at Wisbech Wheelers’ 10-mile time trial in Norfolk on Sunday.
Fox, 23 and from Wellingborough in Northamptonshire, clocked 22.42 to take the win by 16 seconds in the men’s event, while Clarke won the women’s race with a time of 26.44.
The event was run on the B10/2 course to the north east of Wisbech, which takes riders from the start near Walsoken, under the A47 and up to Terrington St John before looping back down.
Fox’s time of 21.00 gave him the win by ten seconds from Cambridge university CC rider Harold Bradbury, while third spot went to Jon Surtees (SSLL Racing Team), who was a minute and a half slower than the pace set by Fox.
Clarke, 54 and from Peterborough, took the win in the women’s category with a time of 26.44, giving her the win by just one second from Wendy Gooding (Team Bottrill), while Sally Withey (Team Swift) was third in that category, another 22 seconds back.
It was Fox’s first open time trial win on the season, but he tasted victory last season in the Finsbury Park CC 25, and was second in the Northampton and District CA 10 as well as the Kettering CC 10.
Following his Wisbech win, Fox then rode three hours and 50 miles back to his home!
