Ryan Davies (AS Test Team) was just two seconds quicker than his nearest rival as he took victory in the Maidenhead and District CC 29.5-mile time trial near Freith in Berkshire on Sunday.
The 32-year-old from Henley clocked 1:09:55 for the H29/18 course, which takes riders on an anti-clockwise loop from west of High Wycombe, up to Stokenchurch before heading back down to Henley, across to Marlow, before returning to Freith.
That gave him a narrow win over Ollie Hucks (High Wycombe CC), while Jamie Pine (Nuun-Sigma Sport) was third, another 26 seconds back.
All riders had a dry ride despite rain just before and after the event, but in places there was a lot of standing water which, coupled with some gusty winds, made for a challenging day.
RP Vision Racing Team had several riders who performed well, including Giles Clark whose time of 1:15.35 gave him eighth overall.
Fastest woman was Tamina Oliver (Oxford University CC) who covered the course in 1:20:38 and was fastest female by 26 minutes and broke the women’s course record.
RP Vision RT were victorious in the two-up event, with Timothy Allen and Fabian Horrocks clocking 1:14:47 to win by more than eight minutes, while the Trike category was won by Fenland RC’s Ian Pike who also broke the trike course record.
It was the first victory of the season for Davies – but surely not his last, if last season is anything to go by.
He won the Reading CC 10 back in August, and was third in the Reading CC 50, Dunstable RCC 10 and Westerley CC 10, while he placed second in Bossard Wheelers’ 10 with a 19.17.
