Oxford University CC rider Isaac Mundy powered to victory on a challenging day in Somerset, winning the Team Tor 2000 hill-climb on West Close Hill in Priddy by 14 seconds.
22-year-old Mundy clocked 5:53.9 for the 1,979-metre course which, although not close to being a course record, was still an impressive performance on a day which although clear was chilly and had a nagging head wind on the exposed sections.
Mundy’s win is the latest in a strong of good results, which have seen him win the VC Walcot climb of Claverton Hill and Newbury Road Club’s climb on Walbury Hill in Berkshire over the last few weeks, as well as placing third in the Catford CC climb of Yorks Hill and the ESCA climb of Firle Bostal.
Fastest female was Joanne Jago (Performance Cycles) whose time of 7:53.7 gave her the win in that category by 11.3 seconds from Sigma Sport rival Mathilde Pauls.
Jago’s victory comes after a string of five second places in recent hill-climbs, but the 36-year-old is no stranger to wins.
She was fastest female in Chippenham and District Wheelers’ hill climb on October 1, and was similarly the winner of that category in events promoted by T1 Diabetes.info, Cotswold Veldrijden and the Somerset Road Club last month.
