William Bourne claimed the win in the University of Bristol hill-climb by the slenderest of margins as good conditions led to several course records being broken.

The Handsling Racing Team man clocked 2:57.3 on the 1,380 metre course, which secured him first place by just six tenths of a second.

George Fowler (NFTO Pro Cycling) was the rider in second, with Glyndwr Griffiths (73 Degrees Bicycles) continuing his good form picking up third in 3:01.5.

The good weather and southerly winds made the course very fast, with all of the top six seniors breaking the existing course record, which Bourne now holds.

It was the same story in the women’s race, where the top four all clocked times under the previous course record.

The new holder of that record is Kate Mactear (University of Bristol CC Alumni), whose time of 3:58.9 was just over a second faster than Joanna Jago (Performance Bicycles CC) in second. Georgina Panchaud was third for Bikeshed Bianchi.

Steve Thomas (Dream Cycling) and George Jones (Velo Club St Raphael) claimed the respective prizes in the veterans and juniors categories.
