Scratch rider Danny Grieves (GS Metro) took a convincing victory by nearly two minutes in the Sunderland Clarion 25.

Held in almost perfect conditions, Grieves flew around the course which saw riders start in Ponteland, on the outskirts of Newcastle upon Tyne, travelling down the A696 through Belsay and turning at Kirkwhelpington before making the return journey.

On the lumpy course Grieves clocked a fast time of 54 minutes and 12 seconds which was enough for victory by one minute and 56 seconds.

Earlier in the season Grieves had two second places in the North Tyneside Riders 10 and Barnesbury CC 21 but went one place better on this occasion over the longer distance.

Behind him the fight for second was won by Mark Strang (Breeze Bikes) whose time of 56.08 was easily enough to beat Mark Robertson (Army Cycling Union) into third with a 56.30.

The fastest woman on the day was Terri Wishart (GS Metro) who clocked a time of 1:08.16.
