Joe Skipper (Rock Estate) scored a convincing victory in the Wolsey Road Club 25-mile time trial in Norfolk on Sunday – and then promptly ran another ten miles to warm down!
The 28-year-old clocked 53.46 to comfortably secure victory, with second-placed John Swindells (Iceni Velo) being 3-42 behind Skipper’s pace, while James Rush (CC Sudbury) placed third with 58.13, and Paul Groombridge (Iceni Velo) took home the prize for fourth, being another 1-05 off the pace.
Among other results this season for the in-form Skipper was second spot in the competitive Stowmarket and District 20-mile event the previous weekend.
Jennifer Smart (VC Norwich) was the fastest of a good field for the women’s event, her time of 1:05:32 giving her the win and trophy by just three seconds from Harrogate Nova CC’s Eleanor Haresign, while Jenny Anderson (Great Yarmouth CC) was third, almost five minutes further back.
In the veterans categories, Andrew Leggerr (Team Velo Velocity) was best of the Cat A riders, aged 40-44, with 59.03, while Chris Tye (Plomesgate CC) clocked 58.33 to win the 45-49 category with the fifth fastest overall time on the day.
Jim Hardwicke (Plomesgate CC) clocked 58-21 to win the 50-54 category, while Colchester Rovers CC rider Nicholas Webber was fastest of the 55-59-year-old with 1-00-46, and Chris Womack (VC Baracchi0 was top in the 50-64 category with 1-06-07.
And alongside Hardwicke and Tye, Nick Partridge helped to make up the winning trio in the team prize.
