Manchester Bicycle Club rider Simon Bridge secured victory in the Kent Valley Road Club 30-mile time trial in Cumbria on Sunday.

The 45-year-old clocked 1:08.32 to win by 51 seconds from Derek Parkinson (Springfield Financial), while the podium was completed by Stephen Ayres (Bronte Wheelers), who was another 22 seconds off the pace.

It was Bridge’s first win of the season, but comes after he placed second in the Withington Wheelers 25-mile event near Goostrey in Cheshire on April 2.

Fastest woman was 38-year-old Vanessa Whitfield (The Racing Chance Foundation) who clocked 1-26-05 to take the win in that category by 2-53 from 50-year-old Amanda Howard (Kent Valley RC) while Carol Westmorland (Border City Wheelers) was third, another 1-37 back.

The course took the 77 riders out of Sedbergh on an anti-clockwise loop along the A684 past Garsdale Head before heading up to Outhgill and across to the A683 which takes them back south through Low Haygarth and back to Sedbergh and the headquarters at the Methodist Church Hall in Joss Lane.
