Description

Event Headquarters: Mytholmroyd Community Centre. HX7 5DY Open 18:00 The HQ is located just to the west of the junction of the Cragg Vale Road (B6138) and the A646 Burnley Road, Mytholmroyd. Cross the bridge on the south side of A646, over the River Calder, to enter the car park. Result board will be located here. Phone reception at the top of the hill is poor, so times may have to be brought down. Please return body number to Al Fresco catering van outside HQ in exchange for a hot drink. Hot & Cold Sandwiches & Snacks will also be available from late afternoon until about 21:00 hrs. Gearing: The steepest part of the climb is the 1-in-10 section round the bends in Cragg Village. The remainder is a long steady climb up to the top of the moors. Geared bikes are recommended with gears in the range 60-120”. The last couple of miles can be quite fast with the wind in the right direction. The hill can be ridden comfortably on a TT machine. TAKE CARE: (1) through Cragg Village as there are often a number of parked cars – on both sides of the road. (2) when descending the hill back to the HQ – a fair speed can be attained and there are a number of pot-holes, especially through Cragg Village IN THE INTERESTS OF YOUR OWN SAFETY, CYCLING TIME TRIALS, AND THE EVENT PROMOTERS, STRONGLY ADVISE YOU TO WEAR A HARD SHELL HELMET THAT MEETS AN INTERNATIONALLY ACCEPTED SAFETY STANDARD. NB: Hard Shell helmets compulsory for Junior & Juvenile riders. It is recommended that a working rear light, either flashing or constant, is fitted to the machine in a position clearly visible to following road users, and is active whilst the machine is in use Traffic lights There are currently 3 sets of temporary lights on the course, which may prevent the use of the full course. The position will be reviewed on the evening of the event, but it is possible that the course will be shortened to around 5km (from Cragg village to usual finish) depending which of the sets of lights are still in operation
