Karl Norris (360VRT) was rewarded for his efforts following a lengthy season with his first open time trial win of the campaign at the Oxonian CC 50, while Helen Roby (Ride Revolution Coaching) comfortably won the women’s event.

Norris, aged 53, started his campaign in February and has ridden 31 open events this season.

After winning the road bike category on six occasions the 360VRT rider added an open time trial category win to his season in a time of 1-48-57.

The H50/17 saw competitors start outside Kingston Bagpuize before heading out and back along the A420 past Faringdon to the turn at Watchfield. Competitors completed two laps of the course to form the 25-mile distance.

Leading a close battle behind for second was Lee Williams (FTP Race Team) whose time of 1-50-12 was just 17 seconds quicker than Jack Smy (Army Cycling) (1-50-29).

“It was a bit chilly at 7am (seven degrees) which was a shock to the system so I started off harder than usual, the outbound leg to Shrivenham felt slow with a cross headwind and several hold ups with slow traffic,” said Norris.

“After I had passed my minute man at the first turn it was a case of trying to hit my target power for the remainder. It was nice to get an open win as I don’t get many.

“With club time trials and opens I think I have done around 65 events this season, only five or six to go now.

“A shout out to Oxonian CC for putting on the event, even with a smaller field, it was well organised and highly recommended.”

In the women’s event Roby was a clear winner with the 57-year-old covering the course in an average speed of 23.5 miles per hour, to stop the clock in 2-07-31.

Angela Bannon (Cowley Road Condors CC) was the only other woman competitor, and she completed the course in 2-21-33.

Norris was also the best veteran on standard with +31.11, ahead of Roby in second (+28.25) and Russell Kingston (Oxonian CC) was third (+26.06)
