Luke Clarke (TMG Horizon Cycling Team) and Rachel Dumbrell (CC London) were clear victors in the open and women’s events at the Finsbury Park CC 25.

Meanwhile, youth competitor Benjamin Cousins (Verulam Really Moving) was the quickest road bike and Judy Brown (Newmarket Cycling & Triathlon Club) won the women’s category.

Clarke, aged 35, finished over two minutes clear of his nearest competitor posting a winning time of 52 minutes and 44 seconds.

The F14/25 saw competitors start near Wrestlingworth before completing two laps of a 25-mile loop in Bedfordshire.

Cool conditions and an unusual northly wind for the course greeted competitors for the Saturday afternoon event.

The course saw riders head out past the finish to Guilden Morden and across to Wendy before briefly joining the A1198, and then heading back to Wrestlingworth.

A week earlier Clarke won the Northampton & District CA 25 on the same course in 53-53 and he improved that time by over a minute this time out.

Scratch rider Stefan Gloyn (Army Cycling) had to settle for second in 55-23, while quickest veteran on scratch John Jones (Verulam Really Moving) completed the overall podium positions in 58-37.

“I was pretty windy, but on the course it felt pretty fast,” said Clarke. “I was pretty pleased with the win and my legs felt good.

“I’m not racing for the next few weeks so I can do a block of training in preparation for a few events later this summer.”

In the women’s event 26-year-old Dumbrell, from London, recorded her second open win of the season in 1-01-49.

Dumbrell also won the Bec CC 10 last weekend and continued her winning streak by finishing over seven minutes clear of her nearest competitor.

Road bike competitor Judy Brown (Newmarket Cycling & Triathlon Club) finished second in 1-08-59 and Kathryn Smith (Sleaford Wheeler Cycling Club) finished third woman (1-11-33).

Youth rider Cousins won the National Road Bike Championships in the junior age category last season and added another win to his collection this time out in the open road bike category.

Cousins stopped the clock in 1-03-16 ahead of Tom Walton (Islington Cycling Club) in second (1-07-14) and Richard Hutt (Harp RC) finished third road bike in 1-09-20.
