Kieran Wynne-Cattanach powered to victory at the Buxton CC Bunsall Cob hill climb on Saturday morning, with Elizabeth Batt finishing fastest in the women’s category.

Team Lifting Gear Products rider Wynne-Cattanach recorded a time of 4-26 to stave off competition from Andy Cunningham (Ilkley CC), who finished runner-up in 4-32, while espoir Dan Taylor (Leicester Forest CC) sealed the final podium position with a time of 4-49.

“Bunsall Cob was the first open event for me this hill climb season, and it was a great way to kick things off,” said Wynne-Cattanach. “The event is a local one to me now, so I rode out and enjoyed the great atmosphere.

“The competition was really high with Andy Cunningham and Iain Duffield lining up; they are such strong riders across all sorts of hills so I am really pleased to put in the performance I did. Thank you to the riders and marshals of Buxton CC and Sett Valley Cycles.

“The legs are in a good place and it was a pleasure to be back riding a fast bike, courtesy of WeCycle in North Wales. I've had their support all season and am extremely grateful!”

In the women’s category host club rider Batt topped the standings with 7-20, ahead of Rebecca Bowler (Station South CC) who finished second in 8-22, while a time of 9-09 saw

Lia Stynes of Macclesfield Wheelers secure third.

It is a first win of the season on the road bike for Batt, who also claimed victory in the women’s veterans category. Dan Evans of ASSOS UK Race Team was the first male veteran rider to cross the line in 4-54, securing fifth in the process.

Jacob Bradbury of Manchester Wheelers was crowned winner of the junior men’s category with 5-16, a time good enough for 10th overall, while Isla Bestwick was the junior women’s champion in 9-33, which saw her finish in 28th position.

This 0.9 mile hill climb event, run on the J9/17 course, begins at Errwood Reservoir where it proceeds east along Goyt Road, finishing 50 yards short of Long Hill.
