Maria Sparks.

Maria Sparks earned her fourth win of the season with success at the Kent Cycling Association 25-mile time trial on Sunday morning, while Sam Fuller took the honours in the open event.

Riding for Ashford Wheelers, Sparks clocked 1:02-46 to continue her fine form so far this campaign.

So far in 2024 Sparks has finished as first female at Kent Cycling Association 10 and the VTTA 30 in April, before a third at Southborough and District Wheelers 10 on May 18, with a first at Medway Velo Club 10, third at the VTTA 25 on May 31 and then another win at VTTA 10 on June 10.

“It was great to ride a 25 on my home course, but a shame there weren’t more females to compete against,” said Sparks. “But this was a 25-mile PB and took 2-57 off my previous course best, so it was a personal win for me.

“This was another well run event and thanks as always must go to the many volunteers that help to run and organise these events.”

In the open category, Southborough and District Wheelers rider Fuller set an unbeaten 52-31, with Abellio – SFA Racing Team’s Martin Kober taking the runners-up spot in 52-33, while a time of 54-10 saw Paul Burrows (Thanet RC) finish third overall.

Burrows was also quickest road bike, ahead of Jonathan Smith in 56-45 and third-placed Tim Kingston who set 59-32.

Woolwich CC pair Nick Elson and Alex Pearson set 1:00-24 to win the two-up category, while a time of 58-25 saw Mick Claydon, Jon Hollidge and Andy Robinson (Ashford Wheelers) triumph in the three-up event.

This event used the Q25/3 course which starts just south of Hamstreet and heads towards Johnsons Corner, then continues southbound to Brenzett where riders turn and head back.
