Jamie Whitcher (Bournemouth Cycleworks - Vitec Fire - Ford Civil – Trek) took seven seconds off his own course record at the Bournemouth Arrow 10, while Kirsty Mcseveney (a3crg) was the fastest woman.

There were also road bike category wins for Tim Flynn (Poole Wheelers) and Beverley Hards (New Forest CC) in the open and women’s categories respectively.

Whitcher, aged 19, was the only rider to break the 20-minute mark and posted a new course record time of 19 minutes and 28 seconds.

Starting outside Ringwood the P311 sees riders competing out and back along the B3347 to the turn at Sopley.

Riders were met by a strong northerly breeze which made conditions tough on the homeward leg.

Whitcher took victories in both the a3crg 25 and a3crg Goodwood Closed Circuit TT League 10-mile events this season and took his third open victory in as many rides on this occasion.

Despite the breezy conditions Whitcher also took seven seconds off his own course record set last year.

Scratch rider Oliver Peckover (trainSharp) was competing in his first open time trial of the season and last season’s National Closed Circuit Champion finished runner-up in 20-27.

Quickest veteran on scratch Alastair Luxford (Wightlink Wight Mountain Race Team) completed the open podium positions in 20-52, just a single second quicker than Samuel Wadsley (Poole Wheelers).

Whitcher said: “It was a proper fast run on the way out and then a surprisingly strong headwind on the way back, paired with very fatigued legs made for a very grippy return leg!

“It was a nice warm day out and a really good turnout off of riders which is great to see. I always enjoy doing my local time trials, so I was glad that I could make it!”

In the women’s event veteran rider Mcseveney, from Fareham, posted a winning time of 25 minutes and 49 seconds.

The victory was Mcseveney’s first open of the season as she continues to build form as the season progresses.

The women’s overall podium was completed by road bike competitors as Beverley Hards (New Forest CC) finished in 27-35 which was 12 seconds faster than her team-mate Ella-May Hards.

“Despite the strong northerly breeze there didn’t feel much assistance going out,” said Mcseveney.

“As soon as we turned into the wind it got harder and harder to maintain speed, it was not the quickest of days.

“It was really nice to be racing in the sun after this event was postponed in March due to flooding.

“I’ve not done much as I had a few months of illness since the end of December so I’ve been using these events to get back racing again.

“I’m trying to build form and will be focusing on shorter distances this season.”

Meanwhile, in the road bike category Tim Flynn (Poole Wheelers Cycling Club) took his first victory of the season stopping the clock in 22-50.

The battle for second could not have been closer as Julian Lockwood (Primera-TeamJobs) and Reece Dawson (New Forest CC) both stopped the clock in exactly 23-37 to share the position.

The only tandem competitors were Jane Barker and Bradley Sewell (Wincanton Wheelers) who stopped the clock in 29-06.
