Reuben Corlett claimed his first open time trial win at the 51st attempt at the Icknield Road Club 10 on Saturday afternoon, with Jo Spencer topping the standings in the female category.
Having spent the season racing in Brittany, Corlett’s last time trial was a fourth place at the Chester Road Club 15-mile time trial on February 24 but here he made a triumphant return with a time of 18-59 to seal victory.
Houghton Cycling Club’s Stephen Boxall claimed second spot in 19-20, with Martin Lines (Team Echelon) third in 19-22.
On his win, Corlett said: “After spending my season racing for Team ACP Baud in the Brittany region I decided to give the F11/10 course a go on my journey back home to the north of England.
“After being sat in the car for three days I had no idea how stiff my legs were going to be going into the event, as well as having never ridden the course, so I was very glad to receive some tips and tricks from one of the local riders during the warm-up.
“During the race I felt my pacing strategy went well and everything else such as the aero position power just fell into place.
“Although everyone was saying the conditions weren’t quite perfect for a super-fast time I didn’t really notice during the effort.
“I was mainly focused on remembering to ride on the left side of the road.
“A massive thanks to all the marshals, timekeepers, and organisers who made the event possible.”
Swindon Wheelers rider Spencer was the class of the women’s field in 22-16, seeing off the challenge of Kirsty McSeveney (a3crg) who posted 22-35 while the final spot on the podium went to Frances Lammyman (Ride Revolution Coaching) in 22.44.
Quickest open road bike went to Richard Santhouse (Banbury Star Cyclists’ Club) in 19-52 while Lizzie Archer (Ride Revolution Coaching) was quickest female road bike in 25-49.
This event, held on course F11/10, is an out-and-back course that starts just west of Tring and heads eastbound on the A41 and then returns past the start line and onto Drayton Beauchamp until reaching the junction at Aylesbury Road, where riders return along the outbound route to finish along the A41 outside Tring.
