Piotr Zulawski sealed his seventh win of the season at the Chronos RT 10-mile time trial on Saturday afternoon, while Laura Davies finished as the fastest female rider.

Riding for Cambridge CC, Zulawski set an unbeaten 18-05 to claim the title ahead of espoir competitor Joshua Knowles (TAAP Kalas), whose time of 18-31 saw him finish in second, while James Jenkins of Hart Performance Coaching clinched third place with 18-34.

Zulawski’s win was a continuation of his fine form so far this season, with the victory in Cambridgeshire marking his sixth consecutive victory in the open category.

On his win, Zulawski said: “It was quite a gusty day, with the wind constantly changing direction, making for some challenging conditions, as evidenced by much slower times across the field compared to last year's event.

“The supposed tailwind also didn't help on the return leg quite as much as the weather forecast suggested, so it was rather hard work! I lost a few seconds at the turn, with a queue of several cars stacked up at the entry into the roundabout, which perhaps denied a sub-18 result, but luckily I banked enough time to still get the result across the line.

“I am of course delighted with the win in a field with some very strong competition and wanted to thank the organisers for putting up an excellent event!”

Laura Davies

In the women’s category, Laura Davies (Jadan Vive Le Velo) set 20-25 to take home the top prize, ahead of Team Bottrill rider Emily Martin who finished in 20-40 for second place, while the final spot on the podium went to Lauren Creamer of Velo Fixers with 21-28.

As well as taking home the victory, Davies also set a new personal best for a 10-mile time trial.

On her win, Davies said: “I chose to ride as hard as I could to the roundabout and then hang on for as long as possible with the wind behind me to the finish; I was caught a little off-guard at points with the gusts of wind.

“I was happy to achieve a personal best, given my legs were feeling tired from a week of training running into the National 25 mile TT next weekend.”

George Fox (George Fox Cycling Solutions) recorded 19-25 to finish as the fastest rider on a road bike, a time good enough for sixth overall, while Kerry Brennand (Newmarket Cycling & Triathlon Club) was the quickest rider on a road in the women’s category, clocking 24-58.

David Halliday of Team Bottrill was the fastest veteran rider in the field, taking home the title with a time of 19-30.

This 10-mile ‘out-and-back’ event, run on the F2A/10 course, begins on St. Neots Road where it heads west along the A428. Bypassing the town of Cambourne, the course u-turns at Caxton Gibbet to retrace its steps and finish near Madingley Interchange.
