UCI World Masters champion Richard Oakes secured a second time trial victory in two days, winning the Bedfordshire Road CC 10-mile time trial on Sunday morning, while Deborah Beare earned her second in the female category.

Team Ohten Aveas rider Oakes clocked 19-27 to finish just three seconds short of a new course record and make it two out of two following victory in Saturday’s Witham Wheelers 10.

He finished in front of host club rider Ben Farrar who claimed second place in 20:23, with Ross Clarke of TMG Horizon Cycling Team finishing just five seconds behind in third spot.

In the women’s category, Beare (Icknield RC) topped the standings with 23-5 - a time good enough for seventeenth overall - with Judy Reid, also of Icknield RC, finishing second in 26-48 to stave off Su-Anne Bullock (Icknield RC) who clocked 27-40 to finish third.

Veteran rider Beare had topped the women’s category at the ECCA 50-mile time trial last month and made it back-to-victories on the time trial bike on Sunday with a ride which saw her finish almost three minutes ahead of her closest competitor.

On her victory, Beare said: “I was really happy with today's race, as it was only my second time trial of the season, and my first 10.

Deborah Beare

“The aim was to get some speed work in the legs after a virtually non-existent week of training due to half term!

“I was riding a borrowed bike, which I'd only ridden the day before, so that made things trickier! My TT bike is currently winging its way to Portugal for my A race in three weeks.

“I have another 10 in two weeks‘ time and my race prep is done.

“I was really proud to be part of a race where the Icknield ladies came 1st, 2nd and 3rd, and 3rd team overall.”

In other categories fastest road bike went to Micheal Weaver (Rockingham Forest Wheelers) whose time of 22-32 saw him finish eleventh overall, ahead of Hitchin Nomads CC rider John Watson in 23:12, and Daniel Tredget of Bedfordshire Road CC who recorded 25-13 to finish third.

This 10-mile out and back event, run on the F1B/10 course, starts in Tempsford where it heads South along the Great North Road, u-turning at Biggleswade North Roundabout to finish just south of its start location.
