Alex Pickering finished just six seconds off the course record in taking victory at the Northampton & District Cycling Association 10-mile time trial on Saturday, with Hayley Moore finishing as fastest female.
Riding for Elysium Kalas Race Team, Picking was the only rider on the day to go sub-20 minutes, clocking 19-39 to fall short of Matt Sinclair’s existing mark of 19-33.
Behind Pickering in 20-13 was Peterborough CC’s Paul Pardoe while Luke Clarke (TMG Horizon Cycling Team) completed the podium spots in 20-46.
Afterwards, Pickering said: “I am really pleased with my performance yesterday after not having much luck last week with a DNF.
“It was good to finally test the legs after a long winter of training and the conditions were definitely challenging with the wind, but being one of my first TTs of the season on a local course to me, I had a good idea of how to pace it. Overall I am happy with how everything went!”
Fastest road bike went to George Fox (George Fox Cycling Solutions) in 21-07, with VeloElite RC’s Steven Brierley runner-up in 23-26 and Paul Beattie (Royal Air Force Cycling Association) third in 24-12.
In the women’s event, Moore (Ilkeston Cycle Club) was clear of the field in 25-25, while Bicester Millennium Cycling Club’s Harriet Orridge was runner-up in 25-57 and a time of 26-43 helped Hilary Briggs, riding for Serpentine Running Club, to third place.
This event, run on the F15/10 course, starts just north of Brogborough and heads north on the A421 past Marston roundabout and turning at Fields Road Wootton roundabout to follow the route back southbound to finish just north of the start line.
