Lewis Wake recorded his eighth win of the season at Barnesbury CC 10-mile time trial on Sunday, with Adele McAleer sealing victory in the women’s category.

Riding for Team Kirkley Cycles, Wake posted an unbeaten 19 minutes and 57 seconds to take the title ahead of Kris Whitelaw (Vector Racing), who had to settle for second place with 20-11, while John Routledge of GTR - Return To Life P/B Streamline finished third in 20-15.

A victory margin of 14 seconds meant Wake continued his fine form this season and earnt his first win since his home club’s 12-mile time trial in June.

On his victory, Wake said: "I'm happy enough with my time on this course today, particularly as it's the fastest I've gone since I recorded a 19-39.

“We had the slightest of tailwinds heading out and a slight headwind coming in, but overall it was a nice morning.

“I've got one more event to do this season and that will be me finished for this year - I've entered the Houghton CC 10 Mile event in a couple of weeks.

“The Houghton course is the third event I completed during my first season in 2019, so I'm looking forward to seeing how my times will compare.”

In the women’s category, McAleer topped the standings with 23-33, ahead of the second female on the course Lois Jarvis (Muckle Cycle Club), who set a time of 23-45.

McAleer now has three open wins to her name this season after securing victory in Northumberland.

On her win, McAleer said: "The course was well marked today so that helped me enormously!  Thankfully, I didn't have to give way to traffic today which is always a bonus.

“I don't mind riding on the dual carriageway. Cars, bikes, I race them all! In all seriousness, though, I just concentrate on my race.”

In the age-adjusted time category, Russ Richardson of Zurbaran Racing recorded 21-52, setting the fastest adjusted time of 18-56.

Nick Munro of Outlands was the first road bike competitor to complete the course with 21-59, a time good enough for 12th overall.

He was followed by Paul Philbrick (North Tyneside Riders CC) in second (22-28), while Simon Crisp (Gosforth RC) finished third (22-37).

This 10-mile event, run on the M102C course, begins on Fisher Lane where it heads towards Blyth. After u-turning near Bedlington Station, it traces its steps to finish by Baker Road Industrial Estate.
