Chris McNamara claimed a seventh win of the season with victory at the Southdown Velo 10-mile time trial on Sunday morning, with Sally Turner finishing as quickest female.

Riding for Sigma Sports Race Team, Christopher McNamara finished in 19-34, ahead of brother and teammate Simon McNamara who set 20-07 for second place, while Brighton Mitre Cycling Club’s Adrian Ford was third in 20-25.

Chris McNamara has failed to win just two of his nine outings this season, having finished sixth at the RTTC National 50-mile Championships on June 30, and second at Hounslow and District Wheelers 100-mile time trial on May 26.

On his win, McNamara said: “This was a nice weekend double - I really like this Fontwell course - a mix of fast dual carriageways and smaller roads.

“It was another really nice morning with light winds and was I was pleased to back up Saturday’s race and hit the numbers I aimed for and it was a quality promotion from Shaun and the Southdown Velo team.”

Turner, riding for HUUB WattShop, posted 22-04 to finish top of the female grouping on the day.

“I’m really happy with my performance,” said Turner. “I knew my legs were in a good place after winning the TMC 10 in Worthing a couple of weeks ago.

“It was the first time I have done that course, it was an interesting course and one am keen to come back and go under the 22 mark now I know the nuances of it. Great event that was really well run I would recommend!”

Riders had to content with a light headwind and overcast conditions throughout the course on the day.

In the road bike category, Kevin Plummer came out on top in 23-02, with a time of 23-14 helping Tom Bridle secure second place.

This event, run on course P901/10, starts just west of Fontwell and heads west on Arundel Road to the A255 roundabout, where riders turn north to begin a loop through Westhampnett and back east along Arundel Road to then trace the outbound leg back to finish just west of the start line.
