Brett Wheeler picked up his first win of the season at the Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers 10-mile time trial on Sunday morning, with Sien Van Der Plank taking victory in the women’s category.

Riding for Poole Wheelers, Wheeler set 21-00 to beat clubmate Samuel Wadsley to top spot, with the runner-up posting 21-37 to ensure a repeat of the one-two both riders enjoyed at the New Forest Cycling Club ‘Boxing Day 10’ event.

The final spot on the podium went to Velo Club St Raphael rider Andrew Rivett in 21-50.

On his win, Wheeler said: “What a great event put on by the BJW team, from the marshals to the timekeepers it was a well-run day.

“We all arrived to blue skies early but soon enough the clouds came in and the helpful wind actually turned into a bit of a slog.

“The way out I paced it nicely as I knew the return maybe a little tougher.

“I finished with a time three seconds off my personal best with tougher conditions so I’m happy about that taking the fastest TT bike and also the overall.

“With it only being my fifth event on a TT bike that a friend has lent me to dip my toe into the TT scene gives me good hopes pursuing the local TT scene a bit more in 2025.”

In the women’s event, Van Der Plank completed the circuit in 26-00, ahead of clubmate Beverley Hards who finished in 27-14 while a time of 27-53 helped Rebecca Hughes (Poole Wheelers) to third spot on the day.

Rivett was fastest veteran on standard with a plus of 5-07, with Mike Anderson (CC Moncontour) +4-42 and Eamonn Deane (Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers) +4-41 completing the veterans podium.

Elsewhere, 15-year-old George Terry of Poole Wheelers rode a 24-14 to post the best Spindata performance with +1-45 highlighting his continual improvement this season.

Wadsley was also fastest road bike in the open category, with Van Der Plank the fastest female road bike.

Wet roads from overnight rain had dried up by the start and riders were greeted with warm but not particularly fast conditions on the P311 course, affectionately known as the ‘rumble strip’.

This 10-mile event, run on the P311 course, is an out-and-back circuit that starts on Wellworthy Road and proceed wests for 32 yards to the new roundabout on B3347 then turns left onto Christchurch Road and south through Bisterne and Avon to the Sopley one-way system where riders turn right over the bridge at the Woolpack pub and retrace to Ringwood via Avon and Bisterne to finish at Moortown Green.
