Nicholas Trbovic posted a new course record time of 19-51 on his way to winning the open category at the API Anglia Sport Zak Carr Memorial 10-mile time trial on Saturday afternoon in Essex, with quickest female going to Laura Davies.
Having finished fifth in the National 10-mile Championship on his last outing, Elysium Kalas Racing rider Trbovic claimed a fourth win of the season to join his successes at West Kent Road Club 8-mile time trial in April, VTTA London and Home Counties 10 in July, and East Anglian VTTA 10 last month.
It was the final race of the season for me and one I often like to finish on, the Zak Carr Memorial which is a great event,” said Trbovic after the win.
“Conditions on the day were clear but chilly with a cross headwind on the longer section out and cross tail back so it was never going to be a super-fast day but I was keen to try to target the course record.
“After a bit of traffic trouble through the village 2.5 miles in I thought all hope was lost but after turning myself inside out once the traffic cleared I managed to sneak under the previous course record by five seconds which I was pleased with.
“I’d love to get this course on a clear day with no traffic to see what’s possible. It was a great way to round off the season and looking forward to a rest!”
In the women’s event, FTP (Fulfil the Potential) Race Team’s Davies clocked 22-46 to see of Karen Aylen (Malden and District Cycling Club) in 25-38, while a time of 26-05 helped Paulina Mozel of Chelmer Cycling Club to the final spot on the podium.
Fastest youth went to Charlie Upton (CC Sudbury) with a time of 26-07.
This time trial is held annually in honour of British cyclist Zak Carr, who was a prolific competitor and held numerous time trial records and was due to compete as a tandem pilot at the Beijing 2008 Paralympics before he was killed in a road traffic accident in October 2005.
This event, run on the E91/10 course, was held on a warm and sunny afternoon on a rolling circuit and starts on the B184 and heads northbound through High Roding until reaching Great Dunmow, where riders turn and follow the course back along the B184 southbound to the finish line just before Roundbush Green.
