Ramsey Kechacha claimed first ever overall time trial win and set a new course record with success in the open category at the Chelmer Cycling Club 25-mile time trial on Saturday morning, while Karen Aylen earned success in the women’s event.

Riding for Shaftesbury Cycling Club, Kechacha achieved his best finish, having previously managed first road bike at the ECC 25-mile time trial in September 2023, while also registering third overall on two occasions this season, firstly at the Shaftesbury Cycling Club 25-mile time trial on April 21, and then at the Newmarket Cycling and Triathlon Club 10-mile time trial on May 26.

In Chelmsford, Kechacha set 56-46 to see off the challenge of runner-up David Pennington (Southend Wheelers) who managed 57-29, while the final spot on the podium went to David Harding, of the promoting club, in 57-44.

Fourth place went to former course record holder Peter Harding (Chelmer Cycling Club) in 58-36, while he saw his best mark of 57-42 lowered by Kechacha.

In the womens event, Maldon and District Cycling Club rider Aylen was clear of the field in 1:07-28, beating her own previous course record of 1:10-45, with Paulina Mozal (Chelmer Cycling Club) second in 1:08-57, while a time of 1:09-02 helped Hannah Porter (London Fields Triathlon) to take third spot.

Quickest road bike went to Michael Stimson (Shaftesbury Cycling Club) in 59-55, wth Mozal the fastest in the women’s grouping.

This event, held on the E9/25 course, is an out-and-back circuit that starts just west of Chelmsford and heads northwest on the A1060 through Leaden Roding before turning northwards, reaching Great Dunmow then following the route back to finish near the start line.
