Louise Robinson (Shaftesbury CC) set an unexpected personal best on her way to taking a clear victory at the ECCA Championships 10, while Piotr Zulawski (Cambridge CC) won the open category.
Veteran rider Robinson posted a time of 20 minutes and 44 seconds to win the women’s event by over a minute.
Meanwhile, 33-year-old Zulawski continued his winning form in the open category stopping the clock in 17-44.
The E2/10 saw riders head out-and-back along the A11 in Cambridgeshire between Six Miles Bottom and Fourwentways.
Robinson was Spindata favourite in the women’s event coming into the event after winning three open events already this season.
The Shaftesbury CC rider finished over a minute quicker than second placed rider and fellow veteran Claire Hall (Parenesis-TougHuman Cycling) in second (22-02), while Karen Aylen (Maldon & District CC) finished third (22-27).
Meanwhile, para-cyclist Gretchen Zoeller (Born to Bike - Bridgtown Cycles) finished fifth overall in 22-51.
“I wasn’t expecting a personal best with the wind, heat and not particularly feeling great in my warm-up,” said Robinson.
“I hit it hard to the turn and it was very fast back. I only realised in the last two miles I had a chance of setting a personal best and took 16 seconds off my previous best.
“It was a great ride in the end and I’m super chuffed.”
In the open category Zulawski took his sixth open victory of the season in a personal best time.
A close battle for second saw James Jenkins (Hart Performance Coaching) finish second in 18-13 which was 10 seconds faster than Alex Pickering (Elysium Kalas Race Team) (18-23).
