Mike Debney rode to his first win of the season at the Elite CC 10-mile time trial on Saturday, while Karen Aylen finished as the fastest female to claim her second.
A fine ride from Debney (Verulam Really Moving) saw him clock 21-52 on a road bike, beating Chelmer CC’s Peter Harding to the top prize by two seconds, while fellow Chelmer CC rider David Harding finished third with 22:04.
Debney had already topped the road bike standings at four events so far this season, including at the Maldon and District CC 50-mile time trial last week, but now has a win in the overall standings to his name.
“I was delighted to have taken the win,” said Debney. “I really like these more sporting courses and it was fairly suited to a road bike with a blustery crosswind and the usual heavy feeling slightly rolling Essex roads.
“Big thanks to Elite CC for organising and marshalling and would highly recommend the SPOCO SE series.”
In the women's event, Aylen, riding for Maldon and District CC, recorded 25:11 to claim first position ahead of Julia Freeman (Easterly Road Club) in 26:35, while the final spot on the podium went to Chelmer CC’s Paulina Mozal who finished in 26:44.
Veteran rider Aylen finished fourth in the women’s event at the ECCA 25-mile time trial in March and continued her fine first-half of the season with victory at Elite CC, powering to the finish line with a minute to spare on her nearest rival.
This 10-mile event, run on the E91/10 course, starts just north of Leadon Roding where it heads north on Dunmow Road, turning on Ongar Road in Great Dunmow to finish near Gunners Green Road.
