Dan Kingston outperformed his Spindata prediction by four places to take his first win of the season from ten attempts with victory in the open category at the Port Talbot Wheelers 10- mile time trial in Pembrokeshire on Sunday morning, with Emma Davies triumphing in the women’s event.

Riding for Fulfil The Potential Race Team, Kingston clocked 20-50 as he only rider to break the 211-00 barrier, with Merthyr CC’s Rob Jones second in 21-32 and a time of 21-37 ensuring that Graham Rogerson (Port Talbot Wheelers) claimed the final spot on the podium.

Davies, of Port Talbot Wheelers, was the top-performing female in 23-58, ahead of Pembrokeshire Velo rider Bethan Ouseley who managed 24-16, while Joanna Cliffe of Pontypool RCC completed the top three in 25-38.

Mike Hall, riding for the promoting club, claimed top prize for fastest road bike in 24-18, while Port Talbot Wheelers were the first team thanks to the efforts of Graham Rogers, Emma Davies and Mike Broadbent.

Lantern Rouge went to Andrew Butcher who, as fastest in the field, went off last man but punctured with approximately half a mile to go, fixed the puncture at the side of the road, and rode in to record a finishing time.

Hugh Davies, riding for the host club, picked up the prize for the first veteran on standard time in 24-52.

A poor pre-race weather forecast saw 13 riders not start out of the 32 entered, although the weather on the day was calm and dry and due to low atmospheric pressures, conditions were good for time trialling, and a number of riders reported season, lifetime, or course Personal Bests.

This event, run on the R10/22A course, is an out and-back circuit that starts just north of Resolven in the Vale of Neath Business Park, heading northbound, turning at the roundabout and then turning southeast bound on the A465 past Clyne until reaching Aberdulais, where riders then turn and retrace the route back to Resolven roundabout, finishing on Canal Car Park.
