Rising star Finlay Tarling registered another win in the open category at the Ross-on-Wye CC 10-mile time trial on Saturday, with Hayley Wells finishing as fastest female.
Riding for Team Bottrill, junior rider Tarling set an unbeaten 18-40 with FTP Fulfil the Potential Race Team’s Christopher Gibbard second in 19-42 while a time of 19-53 helped Owen Burgess (UF Rowe and King) to third spot on the podium.
Tarling now has two wins from two events in 2024, having also won at the Bynea CC 10 in March.
In the women’s event Wrekinsport CC rider Wells was ahead of the field finishing in 22-15, while Emma Wyatt (Hereford and District Wheelers) was runner up in 22-58 and Diana Egerton-Warburton (Team Enable – MI Racing) took third place in 23-20.
“It was my first time racing this course and it didn’t disappoint,” Wells said after the victory.
“I struggled to find some rhythm on the way out, but coming off the roundabout I made the most of the cross/tail wind and kept my speed up.
“I saw I was close to my personal best so I pushed on during the last kilometre to find myself a three-second personal best!
“I had made a couple of changes to my set-up and it paid off so I am delighted to have taken the win.”
In the road bike category Clare Greenwood (Bush Healthcare CRT) was fastest female in 27-07, while the open category winner went to Rob Cowell (Ogmore Valley Wheelers) in 21-48.
This event, run on the R10/17 course, is an out-and-back circuit that starts just north of Llangattock Nigh Usk and heads eastbound on the A40, reaching the Raglan roundabout then turning and head back directly along the same route to finish in the same place as the start line.
