Christopher Gibbard earned a fourth win of the season in the open category at the Bynea Cycling 25-mile time trial on Sunday, with Bethan Ouseley finishing as quickest female at the Carmarthenshire event.

Riding for FTP Fulfil the Potential Race Team, Gibbard clocked an unbeaten 52-54, finishing 39 seconds ahead of runner-up David Griffiths (Oswestry Paragon CC) in 53-33, while a time of 54-08 helped Ed Laverack (Backpedal) to seal the final spot on the podium as well as fastest road bike.

After opening his campaign with victory at the Cardiff Ajax CC 10-mile time trial on March 16, Gibbard then followed it up with success at Port Talbot Wheelers CC 10-mile time trial on April 27 before third place at the May 11 Cardiff 100 miles 50-mile time trial and then returning to winning ways on May 19 at the Virtual cycling Club 10-mile time trial.

On his win, Gibbard said: “I’ve been coming to the Bynea CC weekend for about 10 years and I keep coming back for the friendly atmosphere and beautiful countryside.

“I raced the 10 on Saturday and then camped nearby with my family, probably not the best recovery!

“The 25 was tough with honest, rolling roads, and my legs feeling the fatigue of a big week of racing.

“Luckily I was able to squeeze out enough speed to take the win ahead of David Griffiths who needs to be taken seriously, he’s beaten me a few times over the years.”

In the women’s event Ouseley (Pembrokeshire Velo) managed 1:04-27 to see off the challenge of Lisa Davies (VMCC) who was second in 1:06-25.

Paul Colman (Port Talbot Wheelers CC) finished sixth overall and was also crowned fastest on Age Adjusted time in 55-29, with Tristan Manning runner-up in 57-27 and an adjusted time of 59-10 helping Mike Broadbent to third place.

This event, run on the R25/4 course, starts on the A4069 parallel to the River Towy and heads northbound, crossing the Afon Bran before reaching Llandovery and turning back southbound along the A40, passing Llanwrda until reaching the A483 junction just before Llandeilo, turning and retracing the route back to finish just south of Llandovery on the A40.
