Jake Sargent (Team Bottrill) and host club rider Emma Wyatt took victories in the open and women’s categories respectively at the Hereford & District Wheelers CC 25.

Meanwhile, Tim Fletcher (Clevedon & District Road Club) and Andrea Parish (VeloSistas TT Team) were the quickest road bikes on the out and back course in Monmouthshire.

Sargent, aged 24, posted the fastest time on the day stopping the clock in 47 minutes and five seconds – two minutes clear of his nearest competitor.

The R25/7 saw riders greeted by a downhill start in Usk before joining the A449 out and back from the turn at Monmouth, finishing before the starting downhill leg.

Sargent, from Bristol, has already won three open events this season and finished runner-up in his other outing.

The Team Bottrill was in unstoppable form stopping the clock two minutes ahead of quickest veteran on scratch Hadyn James (BPC Race Team) in 49-09.

A close battle for third overall saw Owen Burgess (UF Rowe & King) stop the clock in 50-53 which was 12 seconds faster than veteran Graham Waller (Team Bottrill).

“I had a great race,” said Sargent. “This was my first 25 of the year so I was a bit unsure of how it would go, but I've had some great weeks of training so I knew I was going into it with some good form.

“Me and my coach Matt Bottrill put together an ambitious pacing plan which I executed perfectly and paired with a clear run of the course meant I was only six seconds off my course PB, which was set on a superb float day.

“I’m really looking forward to my next race this coming Saturday at the Farnborough 10 as it looks like a fast course and I'm excited to see what I can do!”

In the women’s event hosting club rider Wyatt, aged 47, recorded her third open victory of the season stopping the clock in 57-34.

Wyatt came out victor in the close battle against Linda Dewhurst (Ride Revolution Coaching) with just 34 seconds separating them.

Dewhurst finished second in 58-08, while Susan Semple (Legato Racing Team) completed the podium positions in 1-00-20.

In the road bike category Tim Fletcher (Clevedon & District Road Club) was the only open competitor stopping the clock in a time of 58-22.

On her first open outing of the season Andrea Parish (VeloSistas TT Team) was the fastest in the female road bike category in 1-09-12, finishing ahead of Charlotte Mead (Monmouthshire Wheelers) in second (1-12-11).
