The composite team of Sion Slyman and Ben Jones proved quickest at the Port Talbot Wheelers’ two-up 25-mile time trial near Resolven in Neath Port Talbot on Sunday morning.
Slyman, 40 and riding for Swansea Vale Tri, teamed up with 37-year-old Ben Jones of the promoting Port Talbot Wheelers for the event, and began as pre-race favourites.
Hitting the road as last pairing, they clocked 53-05 to finish over three minutes quicker than second fastest pair Paul Hayward and Frazer White of Pontypool Road CC in 56-11 who were the fastest club team, while third overall were Veloflow CC veterans John Brown and Joss Poole in 57-46 which was also the fastest time on road bikes.
Best club team with a woman was the Port Talbot Wheelers’ pair of Emma Davies and John Aspell in 1-03-00, while best composite team with woman was all female with Hollie Labunsky of Port Talbot Wheelers and Lizzy Felton of Team Zero-Allez in 1-09-39.
The prize for best team with a youth rider was the Gower Riders CC pair of Felix and Huw Davies in 1-27-03.
The event used the R25/24 course which begins near Resolven and heads down to Aberdulais, back up to Blaengwrach on the A465 and then down the smaller B4242 towards Aberdulais again before turning back north east to the finish near Pentreclwydau.
Port Talbot Wheelers’ next event is their 13-miler in two weeks time.
